Emily Blejwas

Emily Blejwas is the Director of the Gulf States Health Policy Center, housed at BayouClinic in Bayou La Batre, AL. She serves as Chair of the Mobile United Health Task Force, President of the Bayou La Batre Area Chamber of Commerce, and Vice President of the Alabama Folklife Association. She previously worked in research and community development for the Community Foundation of South Alabama and the Economic & Community Development Institute at Auburn University. She also worked for five years as a domestic violence victim advocate. Blejwas is the author of Once You Know This (Random House/Delacorte Press) and The Story of Alabama in Fourteen Foods (forthcoming, University of Alabama Press). She holds degrees from Auburn University and Kenyon College, and lives in Mobile, AL with her husband and four children.
